Although it may seem so from the name, the town where we are located is not a coastal town, but we are very close to some of the best beaches in Cantabria and some of the most emblematic coastal towns in the north.
Below, we present our guide to beaches near Santillana del Mar so that you can enjoy the summer to the fullest from our Hotel Spa Felisa.
BEACHES IN SUANCES (10 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL)
Suances is one of the most important towns in Cantabria in terms of beaches, both in terms of number and quality. Here we can find up to 5 beaches, 2 of them with blue flag.
PLAYA DE LA CONCHA
This beach of fine, golden sand is the largest in Suances, measuring 1,000 metres in length.
Located in the centre of the town, it is probably the busiest, with many services, easy access and moderate waves, making it suitable for everyone.
PLAYA DE LOS LOCOS
Awarded the blue flag, it is one of the best beaches in Cantabria for surfing due to its intense waves.
It is located under a cliff from where there are beautiful views and from where you can also see dreamy sunsets.
PLAYA DE LA RIBERA
This golden sand beach, 120 metres long, is located in Suances itself and is a beach protected from the waves.
It has good services and infrastructure, making it ideal for swimming, especially for families.
PLAYA DE EL SABLE – TAGLE
2 km from Suances, this is one of the beaches near Santillana del Mar with a blue flag.
It is a beach of great scenic beauty, more secluded, 200 metres long and much quieter in terms of occupancy than the two previous ones.
PLAYA DE LA RIBERUCA
This beach near Santillana del Mar is also a beach with calm waters, ideal for families.
It has good access and its 300 meters in length make it a good beach to spend a hot day or simply to walk.
LA TABLIA BEACH
La Tablia beach is a small cove in an isolated and very quiet area of Suances, in one of the coastal enclaves of greatest tourist interest in Cantabria
BEACHES IN SANTANDER (30 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL)
EL SARDINERO BEACH
The most notable for being located in the heart of the city. Its easy access is joined by its beautiful promenade, making it one of the best beaches in Cantabria where you can enjoy both the sea and the elegant city of Santander. At low tide it joins the Segunda del Sardinero and the beach and La Concha in a sandy area of almost 2 km. of fine white sand.
MATALEÑAS BEACH
This is a beach a little further away from the city centre for those looking for a charming and quieter beach. It has beautiful views and a nice natural setting. To get there you have to go down quite a few stairs, which makes it less suitable for going with very small children or people with reduced mobility.
PLAYA DEL CAMELLO
Located next to the Magdalena peninsula, with very good access and 500 metres long.
It receives this name from the shape of one of the rocks found there, very similar to the silhouette of a camel. It is a quiet beach that is located between Sardinero and Magdalena.
In Santander you can find other beaches such as Los Peligros, La Magdalena or Bikini to name a few.
BEACHES IN SAN VICENTE DE LA BARQUERA (25 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL)
Another of the reference points in terms of coastal towns in Cantabria. San Vicente is located within the Oyambre Natural Park and its several kilometres of beaches in a beautiful natural setting are one of the best options for going to the beach near Santillana del Mar.
EL MERÓN BEACH
The longest, 2,500 metres long and awarded the blue flag, is a beach of fine white sand. It is a wild beach open to the sea and without a doubt one of the most spectacular that you can find in Cantabria. It has good access and parking.
EL ROSAL BEACH – TOSTADERO
This is a semi-urban beach 180 metres long, with fine, golden sand. It is located within the San Vicente estuary, so it is a quiet beach. Here you can also do different water sports.
GERRA BEACH
Continuing through the Oyambre Natural Park, towards Comillas, we find this beach, very popular among surfers, as it is a beach open to the sea and with strong waves.
It is 900 metres long and has fine white sand and is easily accessible.

This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful towns in Cantabria, a must-see for all of you who come to visit us. Apart from its historical heritage and monuments, Comillas has a blue flag beach 800 metres long, located near its town centre, which also has a beautiful promenade. It is a beach with moderate waves, ideal for swimming and in the summer months it is a very busy beach.
BEACH IN OYAMBRE
(30 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL)
Within the Oyambre Natural Park and halfway between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, you will find this beautiful beach, one of the best beaches in Cantabria near Santillana del Mar.
Its 2 km in length, its natural surroundings and its moderate waves make Oyambre beach a fantastic option for both swimming and for taking a walk enjoying the sea and nature, highlighting its dunes. It is one of the best preserved beaches in all of Cantabria.
VALDEARENAS AND CANALLAVES BEACHES

And Somocuevas is a small nudist cove 100 metres long nestled in a beautiful natural setting and which is sheltered, so its waves are moderate. Ideal for those who like to practice nudism.
MOGRO BEACH

Located in the Mogro Estuary, right in front of the Liencres Dunes Natural Park, it is a good option among the beaches near Santillana del Mar to go with children, due to its 620 meters in length and because it is a very quiet beach as it is within the estuary.
It is an urban beach and therefore has all the amenities in terms of services and infrastructure.
LUAÑA BEACH
(20 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL)
Located in the town of Cobreces, 400 metres long and with moderate waves.
It is a quiet beach, with a beautiful natural setting, ideal for spending a day at the beach near Santillana del Mar in a less crowded place than other more touristy places such as Comillas or San Vicente, although in summer it is also very busy.
